The Washington City Council met Tuesday. On the agenda under new business was the discussion and consideration of a resolution approving the base pay scale of the Washington Police Department. Washington Police Chief Jim Lester gave a report,“You know it’s something that we’ve discussed really several months. I have discussed it with the mayor, city administrator, finance director, the council, you know I’ve brought that up at different times. And we’re not alone in our search for officers,or certified officers, and our starting pay is considerably below average.” Council approved the increased base pay for the Police Department. The total annual cost of the change per officer amounts to an average of $13,673, that is based on the current annual salaries received.
