Since 2017, the Mid-Prairie Academic Excellence Fund has supported 33 different projects to support innovative learning throughout the district. Ranging from 3D calculus pens, to gardens, and even drones, the fund provides unique learning opportunities to Mid-Prairie students across all buildings.
The Academic Excellence Fund was first put together by the Mid-Prairie class of 1966 with a $66,000 donation. Since 2017, the endowment has grown to $150,886, with $27,900 having gone towards projects so far. Teachers can submit a grant application in the fall, and grants are approved based on the educational value of the project and the number of students who will benefit from it.
Communications Specialist for Mid-Prairie, Taylor Weber, tells KCII what these opportunities mean for the students and staff alike. “It makes Mid-Prairie a great place to be and somewhere that you know your students are going to get this amazing education that’s above and beyond what normal budget is able to provide,” she said. “We want our teachers to keep thinking beyond just their regular curriculum and what they can provide for their students.”
