Twenty-two area wrestlers will take the mat today to open the 2023 Iowa High School Athletic Association Traditional State tournament.

The Washington Demons have four athletes in Des Moines for the Class 2A tournament, including Aaron Boone at 120lbs, Caden Greiner at 132lbs, Chase Greiner at 160lbs and Curtis Stender at 195lbs.  

Also in Class 2A Mid-Prairie is sending their 195lber Terry Bordenave.

The Columbus/Winfield Mt. Union Wrestling team has five Wildcats competing for a title in the 2A field including Dante Zuniga at 145lbs, Triston Miller at 152lbs, Cole Storm at 160lbs, Kai Malone at 220lbs and Russel Coil at 285.

In Class 1A, Sigourney-Keota has six athletes looking to make noise in the state capital including Reanah Utterback at 106lbs, Brady Clark at 126lbs, Dan McLaughlin at 132lbs, Reid Molyneux at 152lbs, Jake Moore at 160lbs and Jack Clarahan at 170lbs.

The Highland Huskies have a trio in the Class 1A tournament that include Luke Guseman at 120lbs, Carlos Valenzuela at 132lbs and Jack Peiffer at 138lbs.

WACO will have three Warriors in action to open the tournament today with Gage Samo at 113lbs, Louden Huisenga at 160lbs and Drew Diers at 195lbs.
