The first day of the Iowa High School Athletic Association traditional state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines finished Wednesday and several local athletes kept their championship dreams alive.
Those advancing to the championship bracket quarterfinals with a pair of wins include, in Class 2A, Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union’s 285lber Russel Coil. In Class 1A, Highland’s 132lber Carlos Valenzuela, Sigourney-Keota’s Reanah Utterback at 106lbs and Jack Clarahan at 170lbs and WACO’s Gage Samo at 113lbs and Louden Huisenga at 160.
Those alive in consolation action include, in Class 2A, Washington’s Aaron Boone, Caden Greiner, Chase Greiner and Curtis Stender, Mid-Prairie’s Terry Bordenave, Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union’s Dante Zuniga, Triston Miller, Cole Storm, and Kai Malone. In Class 1A, Highland’s Jack Peiffer, Sigourney-Keota’s Brady Clark, Dan McLaughlin, Reid Molyneux and Jake Moore and WACO’s Drew Diers.
