The Columbus Wildcats were eliminated from the girls’ basketball postseason with a 62-25 loss at Wilton Tuesday night in the Class 2A Region 6 quarterfinals. Columbus only trailed by three after a quarter of play, but a huge second quarter from Wilton allowed the Beavers to lead 44-27 at halftime, and a 17-6 run in the third period put the Wildcats away.
Sophomore Aracely Garza led Columbus with nine points and four rebounds, while classmate Ariana Vergara put up seven points and four boards. Lily Coil added five points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals as the Wildcats end their season with a record of 7-16. Columbus will say goodbye to graduating seniors Sara Vela, Victoria Howell, Miriam Ruvacalba and Arlette Campa.
