KCII News was able to speak with Senator Grassley and get his thoughts on the Chinese balloon that was shot down earlier this month. When questioned about how the situation was handled, Grassley tells KCII news, “I think it should have been shot down over Alaska. But that obviously wasn’t being done, and by the way, so much of this stuff, by the intelligence community, and by the Department of Defense is classified. So there is so much about it that you can’t talk about. I think they over-classify, and I think a lot more ought to be made public, but that’s just my opinion, without knowing exactly the nature of the information that they don’t want the public to know. But what we do know is, without a doubt, China violated our sovereignty. They violated international law. We have every reason to believe that they were spying on our national armed forces, our national security system, and what else information they got.” Since speaking with Senator Grassley, officials were able to recover the sensors from the balloon debris and are investigating.
