The Washington Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Washington class experienced many different aspects of Washington’s City & County Government on February 8. The class started the day off at the City Hall Chambers. Mayor Pro Tem Millie Youngquist showed off the new addition to City Hall and introduced all of the City employees. Presentations were given by City Administrator Deanna McCusker; Fire Chief Brendan DeLong; Washington Police Chief Jim Lester; and Finance Director Kelsey Brown. All spoke on their duties and explained upcoming items they are working on and past achievements. The class traveled to the Emergency Operations Center. Washington County Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson, Washington County Sergeant and Investigator Eric Weber, Deputy Nathan Schmuecker, and Lieutenant Chad Ellis chatted with the group about their office and issues that are currently affecting our area. The stop also included a jail tour, K9 unit demonstration, and 911 dispatch tour. The final stop was at the Washington County Ambulance Barn. Interim director Katrina Altenhofen explained all the new equipment and call volumes.
