The Washington County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday. On the agenda was the United States Geological Groundwater Model Survey. This study is proposed by the Johnson County Board of Supervisors and focuses on the Silurian Aquifer. The Johnson County Board is requesting Washington County pay $7,657 towards the cost share of the study based on population. Supervisor Richard Young had this to say, “I don’t like it that they just sent us a bill and don’t give us a presentation on something that they already did. I mean, if they want us to help do something then they should have the decency to come down here and present it to us.” This study would be a continuation of a study that was completed in 2005, and the data gathered with that study showed the adequacy of the aquifer for groundwater supply through the year 2025. This new study would provide data about the groundwater supply through 2045, as well as provide data on climate change and water quality threats. The board voted no to participate in this study.
