One of Washington High School’s coaches is receiving recognition for his efforts beyond the borders of the Hawkeye State. Washington boys’ track and field head coach Steve Roth has been named a finalist for the 2023 National High School Track & Field Coach of the Year. The honor is awarded each year by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association during their national convention.

Roth guided the Washington Demons to a fourth-place finish as a team at last year’s Class 3A state championships, including then-junior Elijah Morris winning the state title in the 400-meter run. The Demons finished with six individual medals, while Washington’s 800-meter sprint medley team finished third at state and the distance medley team was second. The NHSACA will announce their National High School Track & Field Coach of the Year in late July.
