Washington High School student athlete Brennen Westphal may not be wearing the traditional orange and black when he competes in the pool during the winter, but he’s still making the Washington community proud.

Westphal, a junior, has become an important part of the boys swimming team at Iowa City West. At the state qualifier meet at Dubuque Senior earlier this month, Westphal qualified for state individually in the 100 breastroke, placing seventh in a field of 22 with a time of 1:02.32. The Trojans won the state qualifier with a score of 403 points.

At the state meet at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center in Iowa City, Westphal participated in the prelims of the 100 breaststroke, placing 29th with a time of 1:02.23.
