On Monday, the City of Kalona held a public hearing regarding the max tax levy for the 2023-24 fiscal year. After no comments were received, the max levy was set at $9.52 per thousand of valuation.

The max levy is a part of the total tax levy for the city, which is anticipated to be $10.36 per thousand of assessed property value. Communities throughout Iowa are going through a similar process of approving their max levies as they prepare their 2023-24 budgets.

Iowa legislature requires cities to hold two public hearings prior to approving a new budget. The City of Kalona plans to hold their next hearing at their meeting on Monday, March 6 at 7 p.m. Residents and taxpayers interested in speaking are invited to attend.
