With large group speech in the books, individual speech members at Mid-Prairie competed at the River Valley Contest on Monday. The Golden Hawks earned eight best in center awards, leading up to today’s district competition.

Receiving best in center awards were Haydon Bailey for Solo Musical Theatre and Solo Acting, Jacob Carrillo for Solo Acting and Solo Improv, Kenadi Fay for After Dinner Speaking, Jack Greiner for Solo Musical Theatre and Solo Improv, and Daniel Rodgers for Reviewing and Poetry. Additional performers include Jillian Clark in Solo Improv, Isadora Goode in Original Oratory, Logan McClellen in Storytelling, Caroline Schrader in Solo Acting, and Avery Slaubaugh in Solo Musical Theatre.

Mid-Prairie speech students join several area teams today at the IHSSA District Individual Events Contest at Mount Vernon High School. Highland, Keota, WACO, Washington, and Winfield-Mt. Union will perform in Mount Vernon as well. Individual speech performers from Sigourney take the stage today at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids, while Lone Tree and Columbus compete at Northeast Community High School in Goose Lake.

Students earning a Division 1 ranking at their respective competition will advance to the State Contest on Saturday, March 11.
