Some of the top young archers in Washington County will get their chance to show just how good they are when shooters from Lincoln Elementary School and Washington Middle School take on the Iowa Archery State Tournament this weekend in Des Moines. Archers will compete in bullseye and 3D shooting Saturday and Sunday.
Washington Middle School will be first up, with Maddyx Peek and Jaxon Tinnes joining the first flight of archers in the bullseye tournament Saturday morning at 8. Next up will be Emma Alderton, Hunter Barnes, Itzell Calixto, Mark Chenoweth, Emma Helfrich, Caden Higdon and Corbin Hodson shooting on the bullseye at 10 a.m., while Hannah Lipski, Cecelia Mitchell, Teage Pepper, Mason Pierce, Charlee Read, Nora Stoutner and Sophie Wittmayer will get their turn an hour later.
Gabrielle Andrew, Braydon Clough, Tate Sheetz, Eva Torres and Isaiah and Johannah Halvorson will represent the Demons in the Sunday-morning flight starting at 9. Ethan and Zach Hotchkiss will have to wait until Sunday afternoon at 1 to round out Washington’s bullseye competition. Out of the 24 archers, 16 will shoot in the 3D tournament at either 2:30 Saturday afternoon or one of the three Sunday-morning flights.
The first flight of competitors from Lincoln Elementary will take on the bullseye Saturday morning at 10. That includes Kirya Coates, Parker Conway, Maison Crawford. Tristen Heisdorffer, Jace Helfrich, Liliana Hernandez, Eli Miller and Madalyn Roundy. One hour later, Jack Charlier, Carter Higdon, Aryana Jones, Addyson Neer, Miriam Pierce, Braxton Rich, Mason Schneider and Jordan Thorius will take on the bullseye. Austin Boone will shoot with the 10 a.m. flight on Sunday. Of those 17 archers, 12 will take part in the 3D tournament, with the first six shooting Saturday afternoon at 2:30 and the others one hour later.
