Highland was one of several area schools that competed in the District Individual Speech Contest at Mount Vernon High School on Saturday. At the event’s end, five Huskies earned a Division 1 rating across seven events, and will now perform at state.
Brendan Schnoebelen received his Division 1 rating for Radio News Announcing. Allyana Pokorny advanced for Expository Address. Rayne Foley will be performing in two events, including Acting and After Dinner Speaking. Greta Piette received two Division 1 ratings as well for Acting and Solo Musical Theatre. Gwen Piette earned the final state appearance for Highland with Storytelling. Seven events ties the most that the school has sent to the state competition.
Additional performances receiving a Division 2 rating were Gwen Piette and Taylor Forbes for Solo Musical Theatre, and Allyana Pokorny and Taylor Forbes for Poetry.
The Iowa High School Speech Association’s Individual Events Speech Contest will take place on Saturday, March 11 at North Scott High School.
