The Mid-Prairie School Board met in regular session on Monday, February 27.
Carly Weber with OPN Architects provided the Hawk Highlight, updating the board on the focus and activities that are being undertaken for the facilities plan. Weber also discussed the survey that was recently released to the community.
The board approved a contract between the district’s Virtual Academy and the Total Package Hockey Academy (TPH) for the 2023-24 school year. TPH is a club hockey organization with 16 different sites in the United States and Canada. The contract would allow Iowa resident students in TPH to enroll in the Mid-Prairie Virtual Academy. It is estimated that this could bring in as many as 20-30 students in the first year to the Virtual Academy.
Eight bid packages were approved for the Middle School and East Elementary Additions and Renovations Project in the amount of $6,416,474. Two bid packages for the High School Track Project were approved in the amount of $471,497.80. That project is expected to start immediately after graduation day.
The board determined that the 2023-24 new teacher sign-on bonus would remain at $5,000. A resolution was also approved for a Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant application titled “It’s All About That Bass”. The request of $40,863 would go towards replacing the Sousaphones and Tubas for the band.
The Mid-Prairie Community School District Board of Education’s next meeting will be held on Monday, March 27 at 6:15 p.m. in the Central Office Community Room.
