Three area girls track teams take on some of the best athletes in the state Thursday at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Indoor Championships in Ames.
The Washington Demons will be in action for the second time this year, after participating in the Dickinson Relays at UNI earlier this week. Grace Voss led the way for Washington, finishing ninth in the high jump. Iris Dahl was 20th in the 800 and 40th in the 400. Ally Rees was 40th in the shot put. Leighton Messinger was 47th in the 200 and 48th in the 60m hurdles, Leighton Salazar was 72nd in the long jump, Emery Walton was 99th in the 60m dash. In relays, the 4×8 team was 35th, the 4×4 team was 38th, and the 4×2 team was 55th.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks will be in Ames for their first meet of the year and first under returning head coach Mark Hostetler who has taken over the program following Chris Tyler’s 13 year tenure. Top seeds coming in for the Hawks include: Abby Fleming third in the 3000, third for the shuttle hurdle, sixth for Tabitha Evans in the 400, seventh for Danielle Hostetler in the 1500 and Jovi Evans in the high jump, Ashlee Farrier eighth in the 60m hurdles, ninth for Grace Conway in the 800, ninth for the 4×8 team, 11th for the sprint medley relay, 12th for the 4×1, 15th for Emma Lueck in the long jump, and 19th each for Evans in the 60m dash and Lacee Kos in the shot put.
The Hillcrest Academy girls will also compete today. Morgan Nafziger will compete in the 60m dash, and shot put. Rya Scott will be in the 60m dash, 400m and long jump and Delaney Shaw will long jump.
Action continues all day today at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames.
