It was a successful season for Winfield-Mount Union boys’ basketball, with 19 wins and a second straight trip to a district championship game. The Wolves were rewarded for their efforts by the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North, as all five of their starters have received all-conference honors.
Two of those WMU starters were unanimous first-team selections in their junior years. Cam Buffington was one of the Super Conference North’s most electrifying players, finishing second in the league in scoring while averaging better than 19-and-a-half points and nine-and-a-half rebounds per game and shooting over 58 percent. Abram Edwards tied his teammate Buffington for the conference lead in rebounds while also putting up nearly 11 points, four assists and two blocked shots per contest.
Wolves sophomore point guard Jake Edwards finished second in the Super Conference North in assists and averaged better than 7.5 points, three rebounds and four dimes a game on his way to second-team honors. Junior Carter Loyd scored just over 6.5 points nightly and receives an honorable mention, as did senior Andrew Brown after shooting nearly 33% on three-pointers.
