The Washington Demons return to the track later today when they take part in the Wartburg Invitational at Wartburg College in Waverly. The Washington boys are off to a strong start to the track & field season, including a fourth-place finish in Class 3A as a team at the IATC Indoor Championships in Ames last week. The Demons also had one relay team and three individuals finishing in the top 40 of a deep field at the A.D. Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls.
Senior Elijah Morris, the defending 3A state champion in the 400-meter dash, will be one to watch for Washington. Morris’ highly anticipated season debut at IATC Indoor saw him win again in the 400, while Demon senior Brayden Hartman will look to build on winning the 3A division of the shot put at Ames. This will be the first chance for the Washington girls to take their marks since the Dickinson Relays, where the top finish was senior Grace Voss taking ninth in the high jump out of nearly 100 competitors.
