As the weather finally begins to turn toward spring, it’s already been a busy track season indoors for former Mid-Prairie athlete Peyton Miller.
Miller, a member of the Dordt University men’s track team, was recently in action on the oval at the Great Plains Athletic Conference indoor championships at Walz Fieldhouse on the campus of Concordia University. He competed individually in the 600 where he finished fourth in 1:23.54, and the 800 where he was 15th in 2:05.19. Miller was also part of the defender 4×400 relay that finished fourth in 3:23.46. He was a double all-conference honoree for his performances in the 600 and 4×400. Dordt took home the conference title with their score of 204.5 points.
Miller and his teammates performance in the conference meet punched their ticket to the NAIA National Championship meet in Brookings, South Dakota. On the biggest stage, the former Golden Hawk standout did not disappoint. Miller ran the lead leg on the 4×800 that placed third in the country at 7:35.57 and the 4×400 team that was fourth in 3:16.06 where he ran the second leg. The 4×800 time was fast enough to earn Miller and his teammates All-American honors.
He was also part of the distance medley that took 15th. During his time at Mid-Prairie, Miller was a member of the first Golden Hawk boys state cross country championship team in school history in 2016.
