Residents of Louisa County are encouraged to drop off their old or unused prescription drugs for destruction during the Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, March 25.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. individuals can drop these drugs off at the Columbus Junction Police Department, Grandview Fire Department, Morning Sun Fire Department, or Wapello Brigg’s Center.
The Sheriff’s Office stresses that the goal of the event is to prevent drug abuse in the community, especially that of opioids, the main driver of drug overdose deaths. During the event, there will be no questions asked, and identification is not needed. Residents are also encouraged to ask their pharmacist about getting Naloxone for free. The nasal spray could be used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
