KCII News spoke with U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley this week. He discussed the Meat and Poultry Special Investigator Act of 2023. Grassley describes what the act is, “The Special Investigator will be a new department, a new agency within the department of agriculture that would be overseeing whether or not the agriculture department is doing what they should be doing to the packers and stockyards agency under a 1920 legislation, that makes sure that market forces are working to make sure that prices are right, and that competition is working to keep prices low for the American farmer, and that’s to help the family farmer.” This bill was introduced to the Senate on February 9th and is currently in committee.
