Mid-Prairie standout Amara Jones was honored this year for her work on the court and in the classroom. Jones, a senior, was named to the Academic All-State Team by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
The Golden Hawk guard was a unanimous first team All-River Valley Conference selection. Jones led the Hawks with 101 assists, 10th most in Class 3A and 96 steals, fifth most in the state. Her 240 points were best on the team and ninth in the River Valley. She also added 92 rebounds, shot 37% from the floor, 32% from three and 81% at the line, seventh in 3A. Her assist total was second most in a single season in program history and put her second on the school’s career list. Her steal total put her second on the school’s career list. She also finished second in school history in career three point goals. She was one of only two players in Class 3A this season to rank in the top 10 in the state in steals, assists and free throw percentage.
In order to be named Academic All-State, a student athlete must have a GPA of 3.75 or higher and an ACT score of at least 27 or greater. Jones is one of 62 athletes to receive the honor this season.
