The Sigourney Savages and Keota Eagles got a new track and field season underway at the South Iowa Cedar League Indoor Championships Monday at Grinnell College. The top individual finish for the Sigourney boys came from freshman Landon Crow, who was third in the 800-meter run with a time of two minutes and 24-and-a-half seconds. Classmate Braydon Wood finished eighth in that same race, while fellow freshman Troy Klett was seventh in the 1,600 meters.
Crow, Wood and Klett were joined by one other freshman, Wyatt Wehr, to post the Savages’ best overall result of the meet when they took second in the four-by-800-meter relay in 9:46. The distance medley team of Klett, freshman Colt Reed, sophomore Brady Clark and junior Jake Moore took third. The Sigourney girls also finished third in the distance medley thanks to freshman Addison Yates, sophomore McKinley Chittick and juniors Carly Goodwin and Amiya Smallwood. Junior Erin Dawson had the best individual result for the Savage ladies by taking third in the high jump.
The Keota girls were led by freshman Olivia Lyle, who debuted by claiming third in the 200-meter dash and taking fourth in the 60 meters. Sophomore Kimberly Clarahan also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles, and Clarahan and Lyle teamed up with sophomores Grace Conger and Izzi Chalupa to run the fourth-fastest time in the 4-by-200 relay. The best finish for the Eagle boys belonged to Gavin Sieren, who was seventh in the long jump.
