A Louisa County man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following an incident last weekend. On Saturday, March 25 at approximately 1:16 a.m. the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an individual stating he had been shot.
First responders arrived at the victim’s home at 107 W. River Road in Oakville and discovered that he had been shot once in the abdomen. While the victim was assisted and transported to the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, he reported that 40-year-old Roy Patterson III had shot him following an altercation in the home.
Deputies and Officers would respond minutes later to Patterson’s residence at 103 E. River Road in Oakville to find Patterson outside, where he gave himself up and was placed into custody. An investigation determined that Patterson had entered the residence of the victim with a semi-automatic shotgun. Following a dispute, Patterson shot the victim one time before returning home.
Patterson has been charged with attempted murder, a class B felony, first-degree burglary, a class B felony, going armed with intent, a class D felony, and carrying a weapon while under the influence, a serious misdemeanor. He is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
The victim was last reported in critical but stable condition. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending. Assisting the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office during the incident were the Oakville Fire and Rescue, Wapello Ambulance, Columbus Junction Police Department, Muscatine Police Department, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations.
