Warmer temperatures greet a pair of KCII area track teams today when the Washington Demon and Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls travel to Mount Pleasant for the Co-Ed Panther Relays. The Demon boys are fresh off of a team championship at Monday’s Falcon Relays at West Burlington High School that included 150 points, eight event championships and a pair of school records. Brayden Hartman won the shot put with a school record throw. He also won the discus competition. Elijah Morris set a new Demon all-time best in the 200 while winning the title. Josh Anderson was a dual winner, taking the 100 and 200 wheelchair titles. Logan McDole won the 400, Micah Rees won the mile and the 4×800 team of Drew Horak, Andrew Rees, Micah Rees and McDole beat the field.
The Demon girls were runners-up Tuesday at the Falcon Relays. Coach Stefanie Haworth and the girls scored 163 points and captured nine event championships. Iris Dahl doubled up, winning the 400 and 3000. Lauren Horak was the 1500 winner and Leighton Messinger took the 100 hurdles. In field events, Grace Voss was the high jump winner and Kadence Howell had the winning throw in the discus. Three relay titles went home with the Demons including the 4×800 with Kendall Hinrichsen, Abigail Kleese, Isabella Lujan and Voss, the 4×400 with Voss, Taylor Miksch, Eden Levetzow and Dahl and the distance med with Navaeh Brown, Levetzow, Kleese and Horak.
This is the first outdoor event of the year for Mid-Prairie. The Golden Hawk girls are riding high after a River Valley Conference indoor championship at Dubuque last week, keyed by 118.50 points and seven event titles. Tabitha Evans won the 200 and 400, Danielle Hostetler took the 800 and 1500. Ella Groenewold was the conference high jump champ. The Golden Hawk 4×200 relay of Evans, Madeline Schrader, Amara Jones and Jovi Evans beat the field and the sprint medley team of Dakota Mitchell, Lanee Duwa, Evans and Greta Sieren were winners.
The Mid-Prairie boys were fourth with 53 points. Cain Brown was the River Valley high jump champion.
Joining the Demons and Hawks in Mount Pleasant tonight are Davenport Assumption, Burlington, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Iowa City High, Keokuk, Mediapolis, Ottumwa, West Burlington Notre Dame and the home Panthers. Action starts at 4:30p.m. and continues into the evening at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex in Mount Pleasant.
