The Washington Demons put up another strong showing at the Falcon Girls’ Relays Tuesday, finishing second in the team scoring in the Class A division in West Burlington. Washington got there thanks largely to six individual winners and three relay or medley teams that also won.

Freshman Iris Dahl won multiple races, taking the 400-meter dash in just under one minute and four seconds along with winning the 3,000-meter run in 11 minutes and 19-and-a-half seconds. Classmate Leighton Messinger needed only 17.51 seconds to claim the 100-meter hurdles, while sophomore Lauren Horak won the 1,500 meters in just a tick under 5:48. In the field, senior Grace Voss had the top high jump by clearing four feet 10 inches, while classmate Kadence Howell was the discus throw winner with a top toss of 97’1″.

Voss and Dahl teamed up with freshman Taylor Miksch and sophomore Eden Levetzow to win the four-by-400-meter relay for Washington in just under 4:27, while Voss ran with junior Abigail Kleese and sophomores Kendall Hinrichsen and Isabella Lujan on the Demons’ winning 4-by-800 relay team. Horak, Levetzow, Kleese and senior Nevaeh Brown brought home the distance medley title to round out the wins for Washington.

The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves finished fourth as a team in Class B, led by three winners. Junior Aurey Meeker took the 100-meter dash in 14.08 seconds, while senior Keetyn Townsley finished first in the 100 hurdles in 17.07. Freshman Quin Smith had the top high jump in Class B at 4’10”, while Townsley joined sophomore Josie Nelson, junior Tessa Huston and senior Keyreana Sharar to win the shuttle hurdles relay.

The WACO Warriors were fifth in the team scoring in Class B. While they had no winners, senior Jocelyn Fulton was third for the Warriors in the shot put, and the team of senior McKenzie Vradenburg, junior Halle Sherman, sophomore Peyton Graber and freshman Morgan Leichty was third in the 4-by-200. While WACO and Winfield-Mount Union are next both heading to Danville later today, Washington goes to Mount Pleasant this afternoon and evening.
