Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator, Marissa Reisen, has released a statement regarding Friday’s severe weather outbreak in the KCII listening area. Two tornadoes impacted Keokuk and Washington Counties March 31st. The more significant of the two has officially been classified at a maximum of EF-4 north of Keota by the National Weather Service Quad Cities office following a survey of the storm path, damage and debris field, and radar data. Preliminary damage assessments have been conducted in both counties. In Keokuk County, preliminary numbers indicate 19 homes were destroyed, 10 with major damage, 4 with minor damage, and an additional 12 that were affected. In Washington County, preliminary numbers indicate 5 farmsteads destroyed, 1 farmstead with major damage, 1 home affected, 1 agricultural property destroyed, and 1 public communications tower destroyed. Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Keokuk and Washington Counties and activated Individual Assistance and Disaster Case Management. Local officials have been in contact with the Governor and shared concerns about our impacted agriculture communities. One injury was reported in Keokuk County, and no fatalities occurred in either county. Emergency Management is collaborating with local organizations to arrange to meet any needs of individuals and families affected by this disaster.
