The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks and Washington Demons picked up a number of individual wins Thursday at the Mount Pleasant co-ed track and field meet. The Mid-Prairie girls alone had seven individual winners and two winning relay teams. Senior Tabitha Evans was the champion in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes, needing only 27.65 seconds to win the 200 and one minute and 1.47 seconds to claim the 400. Golden Hawks junior Danielle Hostetler also won multiple events, taking the 800-meter run in 2:25 and the 1,500 meters in 4:53.
Mid-Prairie freshman Jovi Evans was the winner of the 100 in 13.4 seconds, while junior Abby Fleming took the 3,000 meters in a little more than 11-and-a-half minutes. Junior Emma Lueck leaped 15 feet nine-and-a-half-inches to win the long jump, and Hostetler joined fellow junior Greta Sieren and seniors Amara Jones and Madeline Schrader to win the distance medley in 4:27. Jones teamed with senior Emily Schlabach, sophomore Ashlee Farrier and freshman Sophie Miller for the Golden Hawks’ other victory, taking the shuttle hurdles relay in 1:13.
Mid-Prairie’s one win on the boys’ side came from senior Cain Brown, with a top long jump of 21’7″. Even with a number of medalist finishes, the Washington girls had just one winner, as freshman Leighton Messinger cleared five feet even to take the high jump. Senior Jude Brown gave the Demon boys their only winner, claiming the 200 meters in 23.8 seconds.
