A pair of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings for Washington County early Wednesday morning led to live on-air coverage for the KCII Severe Weather Action Team.
Just before 2a.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for portions of Washington, Louisa, Johnson and Muscatine Counties until 2:30a.m. The radar indicated threats with this storm prompting the warning included inch in diameter hail and 60mph winds. Hail one in diameter was reported by a trained weather spotter in University Heights. The cities of Washington and Ainsworth recorded wind gusts up to 35mph with a quarter inch of rainfall in both locations. Riverside received a half inch of precipitation and Lone Tree three quarters of an inch of rain.
Just before 3:30a.m., a second Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for portions of Washington, Henry, Jefferson and Louisa Counties. The radar indicated threats with this storm included inch in diameter hail, 60mph winds and torrential rainfall. The cities of Crawfordsville, Wayland, Winfield and Olds all received two tenths of an inch of precipitation.
