Four KCII area schools will be amongst a talented field Thursday when the Washington Demons host the annual Demon Co-ed Relays at Case Field.
The Washington boys were last in competition at Mount Pleasant a week ago. Highlights for the Demons included Jude Brown winning the 200 and Brayden Hartman taking gold in the shot put. Runners-up included Josh Anderson in the 100 and 400m wheelchair events, Hartman in the discus, the sprint medley team of Ethan Patterson, Aidan and Alec Ulin and Logan McDole and distance med with Patterson, Brown, Alec Ulin and Micah Rees. The Washington girls also competed at Mt. Pleasant last time out. Leighton Messinger was the high jump champ. Runners-up included Iris Dahl in the mile, the 4×800 team of Grace Voss, Kendall Hinrichsen, Abigail Kleese and Dahl, the shuttle hurdle team of Leighton Salazar, Hinrichsen, Ryen Pepper and Messinger and the 4×400 team of Voss, Eden Levetzow, Hinrichsen and Kleese.
The Mid-Prairie boys and girls were also in Mount Pleasant last week. The Golden Hawk girls grabbed seven event titles. Those included Tabitha Evans taking the 200 and 400, Danielle Hostetler winning the 800 and 1500, Jovi Evans the 100m dash, Abby Fleming the 3000m, and Emma Lueck the long jump. In relay events, the Golden Hawk distance medley of Hostetler, Greta Sieren, Amara Jones and Madeline Schrader were a winner along with the shuttle hurdle team of Jones, Emily Schlabach, Ashlee Farrier and Sophie Miller. For the boys Cain Brown won the long jump, Jayden Stafford swept the wheelchair 100, 200 and 400m, runners-up included Brown in the 200 and high jump, Jayse Yoder in the 1600, and Emmett Swartzentruber in the two-mile.
The Highland girls competed most recently at Mediapolis a week ago. Sarah Burton won the long jump championship. Runner-up finishes for the Huskies included Jessica Kraus in the discus and Adalynn Kleopfer in the 100m hurdles. For the Highland boys, their last meet was at West Burlington March 27th. Three sixth place finishes paced the Huskies with Jackson Schneider sixth in the 110 hurdles, sixth for the 4×100 team of Spencer Thompkin, William Boileau-Futrell, Brody Sobolik and Wyatt Richardson and the distance medley of Owen Knox, Cayden Day, Brayden Zywiec and Brendan Schnoebelen.
The WACO track teams last competed a week ago at Danville. The WACO boys won the team title behind a 1-2 finish for Simeon Reichenbach and Mason Miller in the 110 hurdles, second place for Drew Diers in the shot and Odee Shtefanchuk in the disc, championship for the 4×100 and shuttle hurdle teams and second for the 4×200. The WACO girls were also team champs at Danville. Best finishes included Elyssa Graber runner-up in the mile and second for Zoey Dennler in the 400m hurdles.
Joining those schools in Washington are Burlington, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Iowa City Liberty, Mount Pleasant, North Cedar, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Tipton, and Wapello. The Demons will also honor the boys 1998 state championship team on their 25th anniversary. Action starts tonight at 4p.m and continues into the evening at Case Field.
