Last week, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office performed a “move over” enforcement/education project north of Mount Pleasant.
A Henry County secondary roads dump truck was placed alongside the roadway with its lights activated. In a span of 8 hours, 42 warnings were issued for the move over law violation, along with 1 warning for a stop sign violation, and 3 warnings for electronic device violations. The goal was not to issue citations, rather to stop, educate, and warn drivers.
Iowa law states that upon approaching any vehicle that is displaying flashing lights, drivers must move over one lane. If that is not possible, drivers must reduce their vehicles to a reasonable speed for the road and traffic conditions. The project was done in partnership with the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
