Both Washington Demon soccer teams suffered their first losses of the season to Fort Madison last night. The Washington girls very nearly remained unbeaten, taking a scoreless game all the way into double overtime. But Fort Madison senior Lauren Mehmert put away the golden goal in the second OT period to give the Bloodhounds the win. The loss drops the Demons to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Southeast Conference ahead of next visiting Fairfield on Thursday.

After starting the season without allowing a goal, the Washington boys fell 2-1 at home, giving up a pair of first-half tallies. Demon junior Manny Raymundo scored in the 77th minute to cut the deficit in half, but there would not be an equalizer as well. Washington is 3-1 and will look to bounce back when they host Fairfield Thursday. The game will serve as Washington Area Soccer Program Appreciation Night, and anyone wearing a WASP jersey will receive free admission to the game.
