Ten teams and 18-holes. After the dust cleared at the Kalona Golf Course Tuesday night it was the Washington Demons that stood tall. Washington won the 2023 Golden Hawk Invitational with their score of 324. Not only did the Demons have the best team score on the course Tuesday, they had the three best individual rounds. Roman Roth was meet champion with his round of 73, Rajan Roth was runner-up with a 79 and Drew Conrad was third at 81. The trio joined KCII Sports to talk about the night. “Our team goal was to shoot a 320, we shot 324, so we were close. As a team it feels like we played okay. I think our top three did pretty good. There were a lot of positives coming out of it, learning experience. Saving pars.”
Other scores for the Demons included Teague Mayer 91, Luke Beenblossom 95 and Isaac Vetter 96.
Mid-Prairie was fifth at their home meet with a 358. Top score came from Aiden Bush in seventh with an 86. He talked with KCII Sports about his round. “Goal is to just keep getting better every day. All of my teammates played pretty good. This is a tough course, we’re all getting better. Just have to keep on going. Keep on pushing through. I had a lot of good birdie looks today, that makes it a lot easier to get up and down for par.”
Other Golden Hawk scores included Drew Schlabaugh 89, Warren Scarff 91, Bryce Henry 92, Clayton Davidson 97 and Alex Bean 107.
Highland finished in 10th with a 468. The Huskies were led by Peyton Yeggy’s 94. He spoke with KCII Sports at the end of his round. “I started off the round really well with a par. I feel like that set the tone for the day and I played bogey golf the rest of the day. My putting went really well today.”
Other Highland cards included Isaac Kleese and Sawyer Shalla with 124s, William Dunbar 126 and Colton Sypherd 140.
