Beginning in January, the Iowa Pork Producers Association launched their Pork in the Pantry Program with the goal of supporting local food pantries. The Washington County Pork Producers were one such organization that participated, donating $1,000 worth of ground pork to the community.
With pork purchased from Bud’s Custom Meats in Riverside, the Washington County Pork Producers were able to distribute a total of 355 packages to nine different food pantries in Washington County. Through the Pork in the Pantry Program, organizations are reimbursed up to $1,000 for the pork products being donated.
Jennie Greene, who serves on the board, tells KCII that Washington County Pork Producers was more than happy to donate. “It was just a program that we felt like participating in just to give back to our community. We’ve worked with Bud’s [Custom Meats] quite a bit so it was a pretty easy deal to conduct.”
Eligible organizations who made a donation before April 8 now have until Friday, April 14 to complete the reimbursement paperwork. For more information on the Pork in the Pantry Program as well as the request form, click here.
