The Winfield-Mount Union girls’ golf team earned a conference victory over Mediapolis yesterday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield. The Wolves had a team score of 208 strokes, 13 better than the Bulldogs. While they did not have the low round of the day, senior Alli Humphreys and junior Afton Wilkerson finished tied for runner-up to the medalist, as both players shot a 13-over-par 49. Senior Isabel Kann and junior Lily Freeman each finished with a score of 55, while senior Anna Anderson added a 58.
The WMU boys fared well, but it was not enough to topple Mediapolis, as a team score of 189 was still 14 strokes short. Junior Carter Loyd and sophomore Jake Edwards both shot 46 for the Wolves’ low rounds, while freshman Konner Kinnerberg was one stroke behind. Fellow freshman Nick Sparrow fired a 50, and Andrew and Sinjin Brown both shot in the mid-50s for Winfield-Mount Union, which will next travel to Wapello tomorrow.
