The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams trek north tonight for a doubleheader against Cedar Valley Christian. The Golden Hawk girls are unbeaten on the year at 3-0 with wins over Monticello, Columbus and West Liberty by a 14-2 total. Last time out, the Hawks mercy ruled the Panthers 10-0, in a game that saw Sophia Baker score four goals, Zoey Curtiss two and one each for Kina Miller, Amara Jones, Emily Curtiss and Niva Helmuth. Miller had three assists, Jones two and Meadow Flynn and Lydia Beachy one each. On the season, Mid-Prairie is led by Baker’s four goals and Miller’s four assists. Miller also leads the team in goal with 16 saves.
Cedar Valley Christian is 0-2 this year, outscored 14-0 in total through matches against Denver and Union, LaPorte City. Cutter Shefelbine leads CVC in goal with nine saves.
The Mid-Prairie boys have evened their record at 2-2 after back-to-back wins over Columbus and Monticello following an 0-2 start. In their last two games they have outscored their opponents 7-1. In their Monday win over the Panthers, six different Hawks scored in a 6-1 victory including Jesse Stultz, Tucker Miller, Joe Hall, Daniel Rodgers, Owen Trimpe and Noah Ford with assists for Miller and Trimpe. Defensively, Jacob Flynn had three saves. For the season, the Hawks have been outscored 17-8. Miller and Ford each have two goals and Miller and Trimpe one assist each to lead the way. Joe Hall has made 17 saves in goal in 120 minutes.
Cedar Valley Christian is 0-2 this year with losses to Hillcrest Academy 3-1 and Denver 10-0. The Huskies got their lone goal from junior Sam Severson, who was their leading scorer last season. Cody Rammelsberg has made 25 saves as keeper for CVC this year. The Hawks have won all nine meetings between these schools, with the last a 4-0 shut out in 2019. Action in the double header begins at 5p.m. tonight at the Martin Sports Complex in Alburnett.
