The Washington County Board of Supervisors discussed an Iowa Department of Transportation Funding Agreement on Tuesday at their meeting. County Engineer Jacob Thorius gave some information about the funding agreement and what that funding would go towards. “So last fall, I applied for some HSIP funding, which is Highway Safety Improvement Program. It’s federal dollars that the state receives, so last fall, I applied for paved shoulders on the remainder of G36 from Highway 1 to Redwood. Hopefully, you remember from Redwood to 218, we received $500,000 in Traffic Safety Improvement Funds, State safety dollars. So we seek funding to do the rest of that corridor, will allow us to do that do those two projects together, with the intention of that happening next year. ” This project will improve the safety of county road G36 from Highway 1 to Redwood Ave. for drivers. The board voted unanimously to approve the funding agreement.
