This weekend marks the beginning of the 95th Iowa FFA State Convention and Leadership Conference. From Sunday, April 16 to Tuesday, April 18, more than 6,000 FFA members and guests from across the state will travel to Ames to learn about careers in the ag industry, compete in various events, and shape the future of the Iowa FFA Association.
Thirteen of those members in attendance will be students from Columbus High School. Chapter President for Columbus FFA, Emma Humphreys tells KCII the various events they will be participating in. “We’ll have me going, running as a state officer. We will have Victoria Howell going as well. Both her and I actually are receiving our Iowa Degrees on the eighteenth. We have Drew Totemeier going. He’s going to be doing the farm business management quiz. We’ve got a poultry team going as well.”
The poultry judging team consists of Mady Howell, Cael Howell, Payton White, and Cole Storm. Columbus will be sending a number of underclassmen as well to help with the convention.
In addition to all of the festivities taking place, Humphreys is working to become a state officer. After completing her interviews in Ankeny earlier this week, she finds out if she made the ballot tomorrow.
