A Mt. Pleasant woman has been charged following a pursuit that occurred on Thursday, April 6. At approximately 4:49 p.m. the Henry County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop near East Henry Street and North Lee Street in Mt. Pleasant, for a stop sign violation.

The driver, 31-year-old Andrea C. Hay fled the scene and was pursued immediately. Due to safety concerns for the driver and other motorists on the roadway, law enforcement later terminated the pursuit, which traveled through several city streets within Mt. Pleasant and eventually onto county roads.

Hay was later located, arrested, and charged with eluding with speeds over 25 miles per hour above the limit, an aggravated misdemeanor, interference with official acts, a serious misdemeanor, and reckless driving. She was also cited for unsafe passing, speeding 21 miles per hour or over in a 55 or under zone, failure to provide proof of financial liability, and failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Mount Pleasant Police Department and Iowa State Patrol.
