Three of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference’s track and field teams wrapped up their weeks with their girls’ teams at the Winfield-Mount Union Invitational and their boys running at the Denny White Relays in Mount Pleasant.
The Lone Tree girls came in second place in the team scoring at Winfield-Mount Union. Senior Riley Krueger was the high jump champion after clearing four feet 10-and-a-quarter inches. Freshman Ava Christofferson also won the 100-meter dash in a tick under 13 seconds, while sophomore Rylee Shield claimed the 200 meters in just under 28 seconds. Lone Tree’s relay teams were champs in the four-by-100, four-by-200 and 800-meter medley.
Sophomores Avery Morarie and Hayden Yoder were runners-up in the long jump and discus toss, respectively, while the Lions got third-place finishes from Yoder in the shot put; Krueger in the 100-meter hurdles; sophomore Cate Sexton in the long jump; and freshman Jazmine Nino in the 1,500. Sophomore Vivian Zaruba was fourth in the 800.
Lone Tree’s 4-by-800 and shuttle hurdles girls teams were third and the distance medley squad was fourth. The Lion boys were led by senior Tyce Ault finishing fourth in the 110 hurdles at Mount Pleasant, while they finished runner-up in the shuttle hurdles and fourth in the 4-by-200.
The Winfield-Mount Union girls were fourth at their home meet. Senior Keetyn Townsley was a winner in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17 seconds flat, and she ran a leg on the Wolves’ winning shuttle hurdles team that put up a time of one minute 14 seconds. Junior Aurey Meeker and freshman Quin Smith were runners-up in the 200 and the high jump, respectively, while senior Bradie Buffington was fourth in the shot put.
The WMU girls would end up second in both the 4-by-100 and 4-by-200; third in the sprint medley; and fourth in the 4-by-400. Meanwhile, the boys got two winners at the Denny White Relays. Junior Cam Buffington was the 100-meter champ in just under 12 seconds, while junior Gabriel Hemsworth won the 400 hurdles in 55.76 seconds. The Wolves also finished second in the 4-by-400 and the distance medley and were fourth in the 4-by-800.
The WACO boys got another victory ni the 110 hurdles from senior Simeon Reichenbach, finishing in 15.69 seconds, while sophomore Mason Miller also won at Mount Pleasant in the 200 in 24.82 seconds. Reichenbah and fellow senior Mason Miller were third in the jumping events, while senior Odee Shtefanchuk was second and junior Chase Waterhouse was fourth in the discus.
The Warrior boys won the shuttle hurdles relay in just under 1:05 and were second in the 4-by-100. Sophomore Elyssa Graber led the WACO girls at Winfield-Mount Union by taking second in the 1,500. Graber was also third in the 800, as was senior McKenzie Vradenburg in the 200. Sophomore Justine Lynn’s fourth-place finish in the 300 and a bronze medal in the 4-by-200 wrapped up the Warriors’ top results.
