Iowa City West hosted their annual Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival Saturday to showcase the best on the oval in southeast Iowa, and area athletes led the way with top performances.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys had seven top five showings on the day. Jayden Stafford won triple gold for the Hawks. He took the wheel chair 100, 200 and 400 race championships with times of 19.57 seconds, 35.17 seconds and 1:07.68 respectively. Jayse Yoder finished third in the 800. Cain Brown was third in the high jump, fourth in the 400 hurdles and fourth in long jump. Emmett Swartzentruber placed fifth in the two-mile. The Golden Hawk girls got a third place finish from their sprint medley team of Madeline Schrader, Amara Jones, and Jovi and Tabitha Evans.
Sarah Burton wowed for Highland in the long jump, beating the field with her leap of 16’11” to claim gold.
The Lone Tree 4×100 team of Vivian Zaruba, Ava Christofferson, Riley Krueger and Rylee Shield were runners-up.
