The Washington Demon soccer teams picked up another pair of conference wins yesterday against Keokuk. Despite attacking into howling winds, the Washington girls had a 2-0 lead nine minutes in at home thanks to goals from freshman Jocelyn Carter and sophomore Maya Murphy. When Keokuk cut the lead in half later in the first half, the Demons had a response thanks to Alex Murphy putting a loose ball in the box into the net in the 37th minute. Washington added one more tally while also pitching a second-half shutout to improve to 3-1 in the Southeast Conference and 6-1 overall.
The Demon boys also cruised to 3-1 in conference play with a 7-0 victory at Keokuk. Senior DaShaun Westphal-Edwards struck first in the fourth minute on a feed from junior Manny Raymundo, who would later score and pick up one more assist. Senior Fredy Aguilar had a similar night by scoring in the 20th minute and assisting two other goals. Freshman Edwin Cortes scored twice, while juniors Joshua Perez and Angel Mata also scored to get Washington to 5-1 overall. Both Demon teams will return to the pitch Thursday to take on Burlington.
