The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys track team put on a show for the home fans at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman Tuesday night, winning the team title at the Hawk Relays. Mid-Prairie put up 146 points, beating second place Oskaloosa’s 121. Mid-Prairie had eight championship events on the night, led by a triple gold evening for Jayden Stafford as he swept the wheelchair 100 in 18.77 seconds, 200 in 33.34 seconds and 800 in 2:23.78. Emmett Swartzentruber won the two mile in 10:28.51, Jayse Yoder the 800 in 2:11.10. In relays it was the sprint medley team of Kaden Meader, Landon Sullivan, Jayse Yoder and Cain Brown breaking the tape first in 1:38.71. In field events, Brown won the long jump clearing 21’6” and Burke Berry threw 49’5” to claim shot put gold.

Other top performances for Mid-Prairie included runner-up for Preston Yutzy in the two mile, Berry in the discus, Blake Creed in the mile, Shawn Dodds in the high jump, Jack Zahradnek in the shot put and the distance medley team. Swartzentruber was third in the 800 and mile and Sullivan third in the long jump.

The Columbus boys brought a partial team to Wellman and finished seventh of nine schools with 59 points. The ‘Cats had three championship events including Kaden Amigon in the 100 in 10.94 seconds, Russell Coil in the discus with a throw of 138’1” and the 4×200 team of Jeff Hoback, Riley Kaalberg, Damian Vergara and Amigon were winners. Hoback was also second in the 100.

The Hawks are back in action tonight when they travel to Newton, the Wildcats are at Louisa-Muscatine Thursday.
