At the Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, the board heard the quarterly report from Veterans Affairs and General Assistance from County Veterans Service Officer Sue Rich. This is her report, “We had four applications for county assistance this quarter; one was approved for utility in the amount of ninety-eight dollars and twenty-seven cents. We had two applications for County assistance through general assistance, and we paid one rent at two hundred dollars.” The Washington County Commission of Veterans Affairs provides assistance to Washington County Veterans and/or eligible family members. County assistance with the following is available, subject to eligibility guidelines: Rent payments, Utilities, Food and provisions, Transportation, Burial assistance, and Grave markers. General assistance provides assistance on a temporary basis for a limited period of time. It can be used to pay for basic needs that include rent/lot rent; utilities-gas, electric, and water; burial; and food vouchers.
