On Saturday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Police Department, and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration are participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The event will be held in the United Presbyterian Church parking lot in Washington from 10 a.m. to noon.

In an effort to prevent pill abuse and theft, residents are invited to bring in potentially dangerous, expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs for disposal. For privacy purposes, it is recommended that pills are placed in a zip-lock bag and bottles be disposed of at home. Items that will not be accepted include liquids, needles, or sharps. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is the DEA’s 24th nationwide event since its inception 12 years ago. They remind residents that unwanted prescription drugs can be disposed of year-round at more than 11,000 authorized collectors. For more information, visit takebackday.dea.gov.
