Chalk up another pair of team victories for the Washington Demons on the golf course. The Washington girls wrapped up a Southeast Conference championship by taking the Burlington meet. The Demons’ team score of 166 strokes was 23 better than runner-up Keokuk. Senior Makenna Conrad led Washington with a three-over-par 39, taking overall runner-up honors. Fellow senior Mallary Johnson was only a stroke behind, while freshman Adalyn Long shot 43 and senior Kaylin Long fired a 44. Junior Maci Williams added a 46 and senior Haley Mitchell posted a 48 in the Demons’ final nine-hole conference meet.
The Washington boys are closing in on a conference title of their own, as they edged out Fairfield by five strokes at Fort Madison yesterday. The Demons’ 163 was led by junior medalist Roman Roth’s two-over 38. Freshman Rajan Roth shot 40, with classmate Drew Conrad only a stroke behind him. Senior Isaac Vetter added a 44, while juniors Teague Meyer and Luke Beenblossom finished with 46 and 47, respectively. While the Demon boys head to the Oskaloosa Invitational today, the girls also have an 18-hole tournament today at Solon.
