The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves and Highland Huskies collided in Southeast Iowa Super Conference golf yesterday at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course in Riverside. WMU won the boys’ competition with a team score of 196, 12 strokes better than Highland. Wolves junior Carter Loyd was the meet medalist after shooting a six-over-par 42. Husky junior Peyton Yeggy was five strokes back as the runner-up, with sophomore Isaac Kleese shooting 48 for third.
Sophomore Will Dunbar fired a 52 for Highland, as did senior Andrew Brown and sophomore Jake Edwards for WMU. Wolves freshman Grant Anderson was two strokes better, while freshman Max Edwards shot 56 and classmate Nick Sparrow finished with 57.
Highland would win the girls’ meet with a team score of 218, ending up 17 strokes better than Winfield-Mount Union. Husky junior Kelsi Cerny shot 50 to take home medalist honors, with sophomore Adeline Krotz five strokes behind as the runner-up. Senior Isabel Kann led the Wolves with a 58. WMU senior Alli Humphreys shot a 59, as did freshman Emerson Schutlz for Highland, which will head to Columbus in their next meet Thursday. Winfield-Mount Union will send both teams to New London Friday, but the boys will also play later today in the West Liberty Invitational.
