The Mid-Prairie boys and girls track teams opened the week with a trip to Anamosa Tuesday for the Blue Raider Co-Ed. The Golden Hawk girls were team runners-up out of 13 schools with 91 points behind Mount Vernon’s 180. Mid-Prairie won four events on the night including Abby Fleming in the 1500 at 5:09.53, Ella Groenewold the high jump at 5’1″. The 4×100 relay of Madeline Schrader, Amara Jones, Jovi Evans and Tabitha Evans in a meet record 51.16 seconds and the shuttle hurdle team of Jones, Ashlee Farrier, Emily Schlabach and Sophie Miller in 1:11.32. Other top Mid-Prairie performances included Tabitha Evans second in the 200, second for the sprint medley team of Schrader, Dakota Mitchell, Navaeh Decker and Jovi Evans and third for Emma Lueck in the long jump.
The Mid-Prairie boys were fifth of 10 schools with 84 points, Lisbon won the meet with 110. The Hawks had five event titles with Jayden Stafford sweeping three events. He took the wheelchair 100, 200 and 400s in 18.07 seconds, 33.70 seconds and 1:07.76 respectively. His 200 time is a new meet record. Jayse Yoder went double gold, winning the 800 in 2:03.79 and the two mile in 10:19.56. Other top Golden Hawk showings included Blake Creed second in the 800 and third in the two mile, Cain Brown second in high jump and long jump and third in the 200 and Emmett Swartzentruber second in the mile.
The Mid-Prairie teams won’t compete again until Monday’s Highland relays in Riverside with select events slated for the Drake Relays beginning today in Des Moines.
