The Lone Tree Lion girls’ track and field earned another victory at the Belle Plaine Co-Ed Invitational Monday, as their 136 points were 63 better than second-place North Tama. The performance was largely powered by the relay teams, which won five of their seven races. Lone Tree won the 4-by-100, 4-by-200 and 4-by-400-meters, as well as the sprint medley and the shuttle hurdles.
Individually, Lion freshman Ava Christofferson was the 100-meter champion, finishing in 13.33 seconds. Sophomore Vivian Zaruba won the 800 in two minutes 38 seconds, while freshman Jazmine Nino took the title in the 1,500 in 6:10. Sophomore Avery Morarie rounded out Lone Tree’s winners with a victory in the long jump, leaping 15-and-a-half feet.
Senior Riley Krueger was a runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump, as was sophomore Rylee Shield in the 200 and 400. Freshman Sophie Bell was fourth in the 100, as were junior Avery Lisk in the long jump and sophomore Alex Dautremont in the discus toss. The Lone Tree girls also took second in the 4-by-800 and third in the distance medley.
The Lion boys were sixth in team scoring and were led by second-place finishes in the 4-by-200 and the sprint medley. Junior Ethan Bockelman was a bronze medalist in the 200, while sophomore Maddox Jondle was fourth in the 100. Lone Tree added a third-place finish in the 4-by-100 and a fourth-place finish in the distance medley.
