***************************THE MID-PRAIRIE GIRLS GOLF MEET TUESDAY AT KALONA HAS BEEN CANCELLED*************************

Mid-Prairie soccer and golf teams will see action Monday. The Golden Hawk soccer teams take on rival Iowa City Regina in a pair of River Valley Conference matches. The Mid-Prairie boys enter the night riding a four match winning streak after a 3-1 win over Maquoketa Friday in Wellman, with two goals from Owen Trimpe and a goal and an assist from Tucker Miller. This year the Hawks are 7-4 overall. They have outscored their opponents 33-30. Individual leaders are Trimpe with 12 goals and Miller with five assists, Joe Hall has 28 saves. Regina is 10-2 this year. They won two of three matches over the weekend at the Catholic Boys Invite, taking down Wahlert 2-0 and Beckman 1-0 before falling to Assumption 1-0. The Regals have outscored their opponents 50-8 this year. Quinn Warren has eight goals and Eddie Petersen eight assists. Regina has won four straight in the series including a 4-1 victory last year.

The Golden Hawk girls are 8-3 overall, winners of three straight after a 2-0 shut out of Maquoketa Friday in Wellman with Elise Gingerich and Zoey Curtiss scoring and Kina Miller and Niva Helmuth combining for the shut out. The Hawks have outscored their opponents 38-18. Sophia Baker has seven goals and Kina Miller five assists and 72 saves. Regina is 7-3 and on a four match winning streak of their own after taking down Union, La Porte City 4-3 Saturday. The Regals have outscored their opponents 51-18. Grace Gaarde has a team best 20 goals, fifth in Class 1A, and Gaarde, Gabby Sueppel and Morgan Gahan all have two assists. Courtney Kessler has 39 saves. The Regals have won 10 straight over the Hawks including a 3-1 victory last year. Action in both matches starts at five with the boys in Wellman and the girls at Iowa City.

The Mid-Prairie boys golf team is coming off of a win over L-M Thursday 183-207, led by Drew Schlabaugh’s 44. The Hawks are ranked No. 24 in Class 2A this week by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association. Mid-Prairie has a 175 average per team nine this year. Schlabaugh’s 43 is best. He is ranked 69th in 2A and teammate Warren Scarff joins him in the top 100 at 90th. West Liberty was third at their home invitational Tuesday with a 324. Top card came from Ty Jones with a 77. The Comets are ranked No. 17 in Class 2A this week, with Jones at No. 17 individually. The Comets have four of their varsity six ranked in the top 85. They have a 205 average per nine, led by Jones’ 38. The Comets won last year’s meeting 180-203. Action for the boys starts at 4 at West Liberty.
